Iowa Straw Poll

One of the things I've enjoyed about living in Iowa is the political atmosphere so early in the 'game!'

Today was the Iowa Straw Poll in Ames. I didn't get to go, but I would have liked to - and I think Jake would have gotten a kick out of it, too, since we've spent some time studying presidents and talking about how we GET to choose our president in America. I want my kids to know its a privilege - and a responsibility to be involved in the process.
I'm supporting Mike Huckabee for president - for a whole host of reasons (he's a strong Christian, homeschool supporter, wants to transform the "health" care system, supports Fair Tax & more). He came in 2nd in the Straw Poll today. Huckabee is a former Arkansas govenor, but don't hold that against him. He's also a former pastor and he lost over 100 pounds a few years ago through better nutrition and exercise! Just a few of the reasons I like him. If you're interested in learning more, check out his website!

Mike Huckabee would be an EXCELLENT president, but I have to tell you, I could not have been more SHOCKED that he came in 2nd in the straw poll~ I thought he would be way too conservative, and, well, Christian, to have that kind of support.
But as Mark and I were watching the news last night, and saw the results, I gave out a big Woo-Hoo!! And with Brownback as #3 in the poll...things are certainly looking up!!!
Gotta love IOWA!!!!

I'm a Huckabee fan, also. Glad to see he did so well in Iowa!

I had the true honor of taking my children on a homeschool field trip last week to meet Governor Huckabee while he was campaigning in Fort Mill, SC. The buzz on Huckabee is growing by the day! I posted some pics of meeting him with a short recap at my blog. I too was very excited that he came in second, but not TOO surprised...I knew he had a knockout grass roots support base just waiting to bust out in Iowa! Now, the next step. :)
