A date with my youngin'

Ed and I try to find time each week to spend one-on-one with at least one of the kiddos. Its amazing how difficult this really is to pull off, but its a priority in our family, so we try to make it happen as much as possible. Needless to say, some weeks are better than others! We call these times "dates" - and its amazing how big a deal it is to each of them. Its also really given them sweet spirits about mommy and daddy going on dates. They recognize how important those times are! Some are big-deal-super-fun dates, but some are just errands and the bookstore. They don't really care, as long as it means one-on-one time.

Yesterday was Jadyn's turn for a date and she chose me to take her (I was shocked considering what a daddy's girls she's become lately!). We got a coupon for a free animal at Build-A-Bear, so we went there. It was completely packed, but we had a great time! Its amazing the difference in her when she's not competing for attention!

She picked out a cute pink bunny and named her Ashlin (that's our babysitter's name!). Very sweet. She's been wagging her around everywhere. She was so cute because she kept saying "This is Jadyn's date. It's not Jordan or Jakey's turn. Only my turn." She must have said that twenty five times. But, who's counting?
Afterwards, we got some ice cream and then went to the grocery store. She thought she was hot stuff, for sure. She couldn't wait to get home and tell everyone what we'd done! I absolutely treasure these times with my kids and I pray that they grow up with sweet memories of them.

If blogger were worth anything, I could actually post a picture of Jadyn and her new little friend ... but ... well, I won't go there.

You are making memories that will be with your kids forever! What a great investment. I can just see Jadyn, too.

That is a great idea, I bet Jadyn had a ball. Is her new bunny as cute as the real Ashlin? Ok I may be slightly biased....

we were just discussing the need to do more of that. particularly chris with each of the boys, but i do think i should get a turn too (though i would not put the choice out there for anyone but coleman as the big boys would choose dad or maybe i could be pleasantly surprised like you....hmmm...) it is difficult to pull off, but a very worthwhile feat!

When my bigger boys were in elementary school, we would take turns taking them out for lunch during the school day. They still talk about those times frequently. I still go to lunch at least once a week with my older ones. You are creating great memories not only for them but for yourselves too. Enjoy.

Kylie is very disappointed that Jadyn didn't name the bunny after her! :0 just kidding.

I am glad that the two of you went out. That's fun.

I like the new blog-lift....did you get that idea from me? hehe

Good idea. I use to do that with my girls when they were younger. We called it Marvelous Mondays - my day off. But the plan just faded away somehow - I felt bad. They still remember those times with great fondness.

Keep it up!
