My Dad

My dad passed away Sunday night. He had been sick for a long time and had been in Hospice for about a month. It was a long road.

My relationship with my dad wasn't the typical father-daughter relationship. It didn't even begin in the typical way. That's to say that he adopted me when I was 11. Not that he EVER treated me as anything but his own flesh and blood. He loved me and adored me. I never doubted that.

It wasn't the ideal, but it was what I had. At the end of it all, he was my daddy. And I loved him very much.

You know how much I struggle with my relationship with my dad. Whatever kind we did/do have, it doesn't change the fact that they are the first "man" in our lives and have a huge impact on us. I'm glad Bob was there for you and I'm sorry for your loss.

It choked me up to see you, Eric and Erin at the service. While I only met Bob a few times, he helped raise 3 awesome people (don't know his older sons). That says a lot about a man's character. I really teared up when Eric and Erin, who sat in front of me, in uniform, stood at attention when Taps was played. Oh my....sniff, sniff.
