American Heart Ball

We attended the American Heart Association Heart Ball last night. Ed was part of a team of executives at Allied that worked to secure a Harley motorcycle for a raffle, which raised a lot of money for the Heart Association. It was a formal event and Ed wore a tux (even though its hard to tell from the pictures). I bought a new dress and got my hair done. My sweet friend, Amy let me borrow a really cool red purse that was perfect for this event! Thanks, Amy!! We enjoyed the event...great company, good food and lots of neat auction items. All for a worthwhile cause.
For Valentine's Day, Eddie asked his mom to come into town so that we could spend last night in a nearby hotel after the Ball. We stayed at the Sheraton, in a romantic suite complete with chocolates and a bottle of wine. Its always a nice treat to get away, just the two of us!! We had a great time!

We were reminded last night that moving to Iowa is more than a change in location, its truly a change in culture. The Heart Ball is billed as one of the more formal events in town and since Ed's RVP requested tuxedos and formal wear, I figured my dress was perfect. Well, I was wrong! I was surprised to find myself OVERdressed! More shocking was the fact that the invitation was clear that RED was the color to wear and the majority of women were in black or other colors. So, after attending 3 "formal" events since we've lived here, I've learned that it can mean many things to different people. The dress-code for last night's event was what I would call "after 5" or "coctail." My dress was formal. Bummer. Maybe I'll find a true formal event to wear my dress to again, but probably not in Des Moines! All in all, we had a great night and its always fun to get dressed up!!
